-«MORE THAN 20 YEARS WORKING WITH CEREBRAL INJURIES »

At the beginning of the – 1990s, a group of families created the ASSOCIATION FOR CEREBRAL INJURIES IN NAVARRA (ADACEN), as they were faced with an absence of sources of treatment for people with this Cerebral Injury and the total lack of support for the families of these people. From its beginnings, with the first groups of families and the first physiotherapy services, it began to provide treatment within the wide area of social health care. It aimed to promote self-sufficiency through rehabilitation and treatment for those affected with this disability. ADACEN began its journey by offering treatment to the families with a volunteer program which, later on, began to incorporate activities of physical stimulation and speech therapy, neuropsychology, and manual and occupational activities.

The development of the resources have been aimed at covering the needs of the patients as these arose and which have reflected the social needs and the health care of their target group. An interdisciplinary team was gradually created of different specialization professionals under the umbrella title of A Center for Treatment and Care which has evolved into Center of Treatment for Dependence (CAD), and which continues to function at present. In 2003 The Day Center of  ADACEN and its Temporary Home for Rest and Urgent Cases was created and which is located in the neighborhood of Mutilva. Today, this continues to be active and it is now subsidized by the Government of Navarra. In 2010, The Piso Functional (Home). Financing for the activities that ADACEN is developing is got, on the one hand, through agreements with the Social Services Department of the Government of Navarra and, on the other hand, through subsidies provided by private and public means, direct donations and membership fees. Over the last few years, the entity has begun to generate its own resources through offering its experience in the treatment of dependent persons, advice counseling to companies for the implementation of RSC, training professionals and specialized rehabilitation services. All profits obtained are reinvested in the development of resources and treatment programs within the entity.

Annually, The Lealtad Foundation examines and accredits the entity with the aim of giving it a certificate which guarantees transparency, correct accounts, and good practice in the management of the entity.

The scope and field of work carried out by ADACEN is contained with the confines of the Province of Navarra. It is a member of the national federation (FEDACE – the National Federation of Spain for Cerebral Injuries) and it is integrated in the European Confederation (BIP). ADACEN has been declared a public utility entity by a Government order of the 24th  of November, 2000.
