ADACEN is a non-profit entity, founded in 1994, which is dedicated to work on providing prevention, beneficial treatment and social integration for people with brain injury (BI) in sub-acute and chronic phases. and their family members. After more than 20 years working on BI, ADACEN is at the forefront as an organization within Spain both in the development of technologies into long-term rehabilitation therapies and neurological chronic attention as well as a reference in sharing remedial knowledge with society; helping to instigate prevention measures and enhancing society awareness.
After the immediate and initial intensive public health intervention carried out on the patient, ADACEN is the only specialized center for acquired brain injury in the region. Currently, ADACEN provides services to 320 patients in its Neuro-Rehabilitation Service, Outpatient Unit, Day Center and Residence, covering the treatment needs of the patient as well as providing cutting-edge stimulation and rehabilitation programs to maintain patients functions and capabilities.
Our approach is focused on integrating promising prospects which arise from the new technologies into the daily therapies and programs from a non–invasive perspective, as well as incorporating the opportunities arising from the new technologies as a support for the daily basic activities of the people with neurological disability. ADACEN has collaboration agreements with other companies, technology centers and start–ups within the sphere of neuro–rehabilitation. The entity owns a unit which specializes in the testing of new technologies, including experiences with technologies such as virtual reality, robotic, tracking systems, and sensors. In the cognitive rehabilitation field, ADACEN is currently testing a wide range of software, apps and smart phones solutions in two different areas; firstly, for cognitive stimulation, and secondly to assist the individual in their daily activities and encourage their autonomy.
The entity belongs to the Spanish Federation of Acquired Brain Injury (FEDACE) and it is also integrated in the European Brain Federation (BIF). ADACEN has been declared as a public utility service by a Ministerial Decree and has the certification stamp of norm UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008. In conclusion, ADACEN owns a wide capacity to validate rehabilitation technology or ICT solutions through Living Lab Methodology, as well as developing programs for long life rehabilitation. Furthermore, ADACEN plays an active role on the development of health and quality of life strategies as well as enhancing society knowledge and awareness on brain injury.
